What We Believe

At CDOBC, we are fully committed to the truth of God’s Word. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word to the World, and the greatest expression of love is to share the message and truth of God’s Word to the World. Doctrine is not something we shy away from, but we embrace Biblical doctrine and do our best to not only explain it, but to apply it to our everyday life. We desire to minister as Jesus did, being perfectly balanced between grace and truth (John 1:14). Doctrine is not a club to inflict harm on people, but truth that is used to help us all understand God and His work so that people will believe the Gospel message and commit their lives to serving God and others.

WE BELIEVE the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments is verbally inspired by God, inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and final authority in faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

WE BELIEVE in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man (Matthew 1:18-19; 28:19; Luke 1:26-38; John 10:30, 37-38)

WE BELIEVE that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature (Genesis 1:17; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:5-6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)

WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the Scripture, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood (1 Corinthians 15:3; Hebrews 2:9, 17; Romans 5:1)

WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate (Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15)

WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need of Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily (John 14:16-17; 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18)

WE BELIEVE in “that blessed hope,” the personal premillennial return of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:1-6; Titus 2:13)

WE BELIEVE that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; Romans 5:1)

WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting, conscious punishment of the lost (John 2:25; 3:16; 5:11-13; Romans 6:23)

WE BELIEVE that the church is the body of Christ that gathers together for worship, instruction, fellowship, and evangelism. The ordinances of the church are baptism by immersion and the observance of the Lord’s Supper (Acts 2:41-47)

WE BELIEVE the local church is autonomous and self-governing, not subject to any other church or governmental agencies or authorities (Ephesians 1:20-23; Colossians 1:18)
